Aisam ul Haq Assumes Presidency of the Pakistan Tennis Federation

Tennis player Aisam Ul Haq is now the President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF). In a close election, he secured 8 out of 15 votes, competing against Asghar Nawaz, who got 7 votes.

Aisam Ul Haq, 43, takes over from the former PTF Chief Salim Saifullah. The election took place in the 15 affiliated units of the Pakistan Tennis Federation.

Before the elections, Shakil Durrani, a former Chief Secretary and Chairman Railways, was nominated by PTF as the Chief Election Commissioner. Asghar Nawaz had six nominations, while Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi received five nominations.

Aisam’s nomination for President, Suleman Junaid as Secretary, and Umer Farooq as Treasurer came from the Army, Navy, KPK Tennis Association, International Lawn Tennis Club of Pakistan, and Pakistan Air Force.

The polls faced initial delays due to court cases, and as per the PTF Constitution, a president cannot be elected for a third term.

In a recent Davis Cup match against Indian player Ramkumar Ramanathan, Aisam Ul Haq suffered a defeat in the World Group I Play Off Tie, losing 6-7(3), 7-6(4), 6-0. India led the tie 1-0 after the singles match.

The Indian Tennis team achieved a 4-0 win in singles and doubles against Pakistan in the Davis Cup tie held in Islamabad, marking their return to Pakistan after 60 years.
