Former Apple Employee Sentenced to 4 Months in Jail for Confidential Information Breach

After a long legal fight, a California court has decided what happens to Xiaolang Zhang, a former Apple worker. Zhang will spend four months in jail and then be supervised for three years. He also has to pay $146,984.

This all started in 2018 when the FBI and Apple started looking into claims that Zhang stole secrets about Project Titan, Apple’s secret plan for an electric car.

It turned out that Zhang took important information about the project when he left for China to work for XMotors, a Chinese startup working on self-driving cars.

The evidence showed that Zhang did things secretly using Apple’s network and devices. His job at Apple involved working on different projects, including making circuit boards that could understand sensor data.

During the investigation, it was found that Zhang took many files from Apple, including a 25-page document with plans for a circuit board made for self-driving cars.

In the beginning, Zhang said he was not guilty, but later he changed his mind and admitted guilt in August 2022.
