NAB Amendment Case; Imran Khan allowed to appear in Supreme Court through video link

Islamabad: The Supreme Court has granted permission for Imran Khan to appear via video link in the contempt of court case.

In a hearing at the Supreme Court, heated arguments were exchanged regarding the decision to proceed with contempt charges.

Both the Attorney General and the Punjab government’s counsel asserted that they would rely on federal government evidence in this case.

The Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa expressed support for proceeding with contempt charges.

Justice Athar Minallah remarked that this matter is related to political engineering by the establishment.

Imran Khan has personally requested to appear in court, and if he wishes to do so via video link, he may.

Chief Justice Pakistan suggested that if Imran Khan wishes to present evidence, he may do so via video link.

Arrangements for presenting evidence via video link should be made by the day after tomorrow. We accept Imran Khan’s request.

Justice Athar Minallah recalled that when contempt ordinances were introduced, the government and Imran Khan supported them.

It was stated at the time that fundamental rights were being affected by contempt, the economy was suffering, and parliamentary contempt was brought in line with ordinances issued during the martial law era and decisions of the courts.

The purpose of parliamentary contempt was to protect the fundamental rights of individuals against baseless allegations made through contempt, but contempt has failed to curb corruption,

has become a tool of political engineering, and if someone is found innocent, can action be taken against contempt? People have suffered injustices because of contempt.

The Chief Justice inquired whether contempt has blurred all laws. It seems that contempt laws are not clear, contempt laws are immediately enacted, but if a democratic government enacts laws, problems arise.

How much does contempt cost annually? How much does contempt record annually? How many innocent politicians have been convicted and how many have gone to jail?

How many politicians from which political party have been imprisoned? The Supreme Court will seek details from the National Accountability Bureau.
