How UAE Overtime Pay Is Calculated

UAE private-sector overtime provisions use the worker’s basic wage when determining the overtime remuneration covered by these rules.

The normal overtime calculation represents the normal basic-wage-based hourly remuneration plus an increase of at least 25%.

Qualifying overtime between 10 PM and 4 AM uses an increase of at least 50%. The special night-overtime provision does not apply to workers working on the basis of shifts.

UAE Overtime Calculation Example

Suppose an employee has a monthly basic salary of AED 6,000.

Basic daily rate: AED 6,000 ÷ 30 = AED 200.

Basic hourly rate: AED 200 ÷ 8 = AED 25.

Normal overtime rate: AED 25 × 1.25 = AED 31.25 per hour.

If the employee works 10 qualifying normal overtime hours, the estimated overtime amount would be:

AED 31.25 × 10 = AED 312.50.

For qualifying night overtime, the estimated hourly rate would be AED 25 × 1.50 = AED 37.50 per hour.
